One Fan’s Perspective
A little more than a year ago, I started writing about sports. It was about anything that I saw that caught my interest and at the time, it was mainly about football and hockey. I had just moved from Florida, so that included teams from the southeast as well as teams from my new state of Arizona.
I found myself writing about hockey most often and since I lived here my lowly sports blog became a hockey blog, notably about the Phoenix Coyotes.
That hasn’t changed.
If you found your way here, know that for better or for worse, the blog is unapologetic in its support for the local team the Coyotes, its affiliates, its prospects, the NHL, and the Sports Industry. My wife and I like hockey and we like the team.
To us, it doesn’t matter what people predict about the success and failure of our local hockey club. Hockey exists in the Valley and we’ll support it. I know what has been written, but the games have yet to be played, and that’s all that matters.
Liking Arizona, or appreciating its culture, as well as understanding its history, is not popular among some, even with those that might have just moved here. To me, that doesn’t matter either. We came here by choice, and we plan to stay awhile. Every place has its idiosyncrasies, its strengths, and its weaknesses.
Even though I may write unwavering support for hockey and for the Coyotes, I plan on being as objective as possible. However, it will be from my perspective, not from what anyone else may write or say.
This year, I won’t run down any other team and I will not start criticizing where someone else lives, or participate in any chest thumping of what state or country is better. I’ll let others do that for me, but I have read what they have written, and I plan no response – it’s not worth it. If you like your team, and like the place where you now call home, and are happy, you will hear no argument from me. However, if you don’t – moving companies can help; they are located in your local phone book. I can’t help with the unhappiness though…
Finally, the comments are moderated so that I can avoid the spam that may appear. So if you write a comment, I’ll try to respond, but it may take awhile to have it appear on the site as I do have a day job. If you select an identity (even a made up one), it is helpful. However, if you wish to stay anonymous, but offer a respectful albeit differing viewpoint, that’s fine as well. Personal attacks, or trying to submit an advertisement that is not solicited, will not appear.
The season starts in three days – not counting today – and all will be right with the world again. The roller coaster ride will begin and here’s hoping there are more up days than down.
